A Michigan woman whose 19-year-old daughter was raped, then kidnapped and murdered by the rapist after the girl warned that he would do so to prevent her from testifying against him, excoriated President Biden for commuting the murderer’s death sentence.
In 1997, Rachel Timmerman warned police and prosecutors that Marvin Gabrion would kill her; her mother and other members of her community also warned of the danger. But before justice could intervene, Gabrion kidnapped the 19-year-old girl and murdered her. Her body was discovered in the Manistee National Forest with her mouth and eyes taped, and chains padlocked around her body. In addition, Rachel’s 11-month-old daughter, Shannon, was never found. Gabrion received a death sentence in 2002 and consistently appealed the decision for 22 years.
