Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said during an interview over the weekend that the U.S. told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before Russia invaded in 2022 that he needed to have negotiations with Russians to prevent a war from happening.
Mullin made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” when asked by host Kristen Welker if he would acknowledge that Russian President Vladimir Putin was responsible for starting the war in Ukraine.
“You know, I think what President Trump was meaning – not think, I know what he was meaning – is we gave Zelenskyy multiple warnings that there needed to be a negotiations before the war even started,” Mullin said. “And President Trump is absolutely correct. If he was in office, this war would have never, ever taken place.”
